Trail Mix or Cake?

Trail mix or cake? That’s the question I want you to think about and which one do you use. You ask yourself “use?” because normally the only use that people have for trail mix and cake is to eat it, but I present to you a thought to make you think about something. Ready? Then read on!

Tuesday nights since PEAK have now started to be out nights for youth prayer meetings, and as of recently we started getting together and learn how to teach Bible Studies and practice teaching them. We’re using a youth Bible study that is made to be simple and is made for young people. It only really takes about 45 minutes to teach it, and it’s honestly pretty good!

It has an introduction part to it and our youth leader told us to try and not read directly from what they have wrote, but take the meaning of it and use our own words. Great idea!! But wait… I’m not that creative and good of something to say, but nevertheless I tried it. I don’t know where exactly it came from, but while I was practicing the Bible study with my partner I spoke some pretty good things for an introduction.

The introduction of this Bible study we’re using basically says people today treat the Bible as a mixed bag, describes the Bible, and that the Bible is a nicely laid out plan of salvation. How did I put it in my own words? If I can remember correctly here’s how…

The first part of the introduction talks about how people now days treat the Bible like a mixed bag. I decided to mix it up and use my own words, so this is what I said. People these days treat the Bible like how they treat a trail mix. They love those M&Ms, raisins, and peanut butter M&Ms yet they leave out the nuts cause those aren’t really that good. People pick and use which part of the Bible they like and which parts of the Bible fits the way they’re living now so that they don’t have to change any. The Bible warns us about that in Deuteronomy 12:32:

What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

(Please note that these aren’t exactly how I said them earlier because I can’t remember 100% correctly what I said… Sorry!) The other part that I really used in my own words was the last part about the Bible being God’s plan of salvation for us. I’m sure you like a good cake like the picture up there looks! Well, behind every good cake is a good recipe! If you follow that good recipe step-by-step and follow all the directions, you’ll end up with a good cake. That’s like what God has provided us when He gave us the Bible. He laid out the plan of salvation for us in the Bible and if we follow it correctly, we’ll have the salvation that he wants for us. But if we skip one step, then we don’t get God’s salvation we get some messed up salvation that God doesn’t recognize. If you’ll fill in all the blanks and follow along with me in this Bible Study, you’ll hopefully see the recipe for God’s salvation for us! Let’s begin!

After reading this, which one do you use? Are you a Trail Mix person? Or are you the Cake person? Ponder it!!!

God Bless,
Bradley Hilton
